Donald Thoms

Donald Thoms is Vice President of Programming, General Audience for PBS. He previously led ThomsMediaGroup (TMG) as its president. Prior to this, he served as vice president of Talent Development for Discovery Studios. In this role, Thoms oversaw efforts to scout and secure on-screen talent for Discovery Studios productions. Additionally, he served as Discovery Studio' primary liaison to the talent community as he worked to identify and develop new on-air personalities to appear in series, specials and short form content created by Discovery Studios.

Thoms was previously Vice President of Production for Discovery Health Channel/Discovery Health Media Enterprises. During Thoms’ time with Discovery Health Channel, the network saw double-digit growth in ad sales revenue and ratings and many the network’s most successful projects were grown under Thoms.

Prior to joining the Discovery Health Network, Thoms was Vice President of Program Management at PBS where he was responsible for overseeing the packaging and delivery of PBS’s programming services. He created PBS’s series, Independent Lens, which featured the works of independent filmmakers and the Indi Scene, an extensive website promoting independent productions on PBS.
