The friday Film Quote – April 9, 2010

Each Friday, a CINE Award-winner, Board member, staffer, juror or FOC (“Friend of CINE”) will select a favorite quote, either from a film or about filmmaking/creativity, and explain why it’s a favorite.

Today: Mary Frost, a member of CINE’s Board of Directors.

Lord John Whorfin: “Where are we going?”
The Red Lectroids: “Planet Ten!”
Lord John Whorfin: “When are we going?”
The Red Lectroids: “Real soon!”
-Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

A cult film and family favorite, this is a very non-traditional comic film with deadpan humor. Rent it sometime if you love the offbeat.

Interns Wanted!

We’re looking for interns to help us plan and execute the 2010 CINE Awards Gala, which will be held on June 3rd at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C., and assist in various film screenings, workshops and events surrounding the Gala. (Check out pictures of last year’s Gala, also held at the French Embassy.)

Prospective interns should have a background or interest in film/television/media, be willing to work 10+ hours a week, and be available to begin work in May. Production experience is a bonus, as there may be opportunities to shoot and edit. The summer internship is unpaid, but can be taken for school credit. And you’ll get a sweet bio on the CINE Staff page, so that’s a definite perk.

Interested? Contact Betsy Walters at bwalters@cine.org or 202.785.1136.

The Friday Film Quote – April 2, 2010

Each Friday, a CINE Award-winner, Board member, staffer, juror or FOC (“Friend of CINE”) will select a favorite quote, either from a film or about filmmaking/creativity, and explain why it’s a favorite.

Today: Mark Rasch, a member of CINE’s Board of Directors.

Ted Striker: “Surely you can’t be serious.”
Rumack: “I am serious…and don’t call me Shirley.”
-Airplane

Why choose this quote? It’s instantly recognizable…and works in so many situations.

Happy April Fools Day!

April Fools!

Ah, April…We’ll be quite busy here at CINE HQ this month, as the first round of judging for the Spring 2010 Competition will kick off, AND we’ll be planning our June awards ceremony, screenings and workshops – at which we may or may not be launching our new CINE Golden Flamingo. We can neither confirm nor deny.

Happy April Fools Day, everyone!
