The Friday Film Quote – April 2, 2010

Each Friday, a CINE Award-winner, Board member, staffer, juror or FOC (“Friend of CINE”) will select a favorite quote, either from a film or about filmmaking/creativity, and explain why it’s a favorite.

Today: Mark Rasch, a member of CINE’s Board of Directors.

Ted Striker: “Surely you can’t be serious.”
Rumack: “I am serious…and don’t call me Shirley.”
-Airplane

Why choose this quote? It’s instantly recognizable…and works in so many situations.

Happy April Fools Day!

April Fools!

Ah, April…We’ll be quite busy here at CINE HQ this month, as the first round of judging for the Spring 2010 Competition will kick off, AND we’ll be planning our June awards ceremony, screenings and workshops – at which we may or may not be launching our new CINE Golden Flamingo. We can neither confirm nor deny.

Happy April Fools Day, everyone!

The Friday Film Quote – March 26, 2010

Each Friday, a CINE Award-winner, Board member, staffer, juror or FOC (“Friend of CINE”) will select a favorite quote, either from a film or about filmmaking/creativity, and explain why it’s a favorite.

Today: Bruce Bucklin, former Director of Competitions for CINE.

“The trick in life isn’t in getting what you want…It’s wanting it after you get it.”
- Katharine Hepburn, Love Affair

This quote is so appropriate to life – people want, want, want, but once you get it, you simply don’t want it anymore. For too many, the wanting is the goal – not the having and keeping.

Sweet!

Kudos to CINE Board Member Mark Finkelpearl, whose six part series Cupcake Sisters has been picked up by TLC. The series will be produced by Doug DePriest, with Finkelpearl, who developed the concept, as Executive Producer.

CINE HQ is Closed Today…

Thanks to the Snowpocalypse – no, really, nature gods, thanks for deciding to bury DC under a mountain of snow this year – CINE HQ is closed today. If you have any questions or concerns about the CINE Competition, please call Betsy Walters (who bravely tried to traverse the snowbanks, only to be rebuffed) at 202.257.3066.

Introducing the CINE Blog

A few months ago, we unveiled the new CINE.org, and today, we’re thrilled to present its newest feature: the CINE Blog. Though it’s rather daunting for a 53-year old organization to dive headfirst into the world of blogging and social media (follow us on Twitter! And Facebook!), we’re excited to have the opportunity to engage with those who are making great media; and whether you are an entertainment mogul or a student filmmaker with a camera, a wing and a prayer, all are welcome – and represented.

Since it’s time for the Spring 2010 CINE Competition (have you entered yet?), we’ll have tips for entrants (including what not to do if you’re planning on entering); tell us what’s on your mind by submitting your Competition questions. And in the future, keep an eye out for exclusive news, updates, CINE winner Q&As and much more.

Finally, let us know what else you’d like to see in this space. We’re here to serve you, so holler (metaphorically) with your ideas.

Thanks for joining us in the blogosphere!
