We’re looking for interns to help us plan and execute the 2010 CINE Awards Gala, which will be held on June 3rd at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C., and assist in various film screenings, workshops and events surrounding the Gala. (Check out pictures of last year’s Gala, also held at the French Embassy.)

Prospective interns should have a background or interest in film/television/media, be willing to work 10+ hours a week, and be available to begin work in May. Production experience is a bonus, as there may be opportunities to shoot and edit. The summer internship is unpaid, but can be taken for school credit. And you’ll get a sweet bio on the CINE Staff page, so that’s a definite perk.

Interested? Contact Betsy Walters at bwalters@cine.org or 202.785.1136.

“The trick in life isn’t in getting what you want…It’s wanting it after you get it.”
- Katharine Hepburn, Love Affair

This quote is so appropriate to life – people want, want, want, but once you get it, you simply don’t want it anymore. For too many, the wanting is the goal – not the having and keeping.

“It starts with the writer – it’s a familiar dictum, but somehow it keeps getting forgotten along the way. No filmmaker, irrespective of his electronic bag of tricks, can ever afford to forget his commitment to the written word.”
- Steven Spielberg

Unless you’re doing a sweet, compelling animated film like Sebastian’s Voodoo or Reach - CINE Award winners, both – you can’t have a movie without people talking, so somebody’s got to write the script. And as Mel Brooks said, “Anybody can direct, but there are only eleven good writers.” And now you just got two quotes for the price of one!

“it starts with being excited by a story and finally it’s telling the story on screen…It’s the most difficult thing. A good story is a miraculous discovery…”
- Stanley Kubrick

It’s always been one of my favorite quotes because it cuts to the essence of how difficult it really is to find material that is truly engaging to a wide audience, most especially in non-fiction and present it properly. He’s right…storytelling is actually quite a difficult process and while I will never be able to count numbers like an accountant or treat heart ailments like a cardiologist, they would certainly find our work just as challenging in many ways.

Hitmen like meetings just as much as filmmakers. They are a necessary evil but often block the flow of creativity and action. The less meetings, the better. Like hitmen, our mantra should be, “Get out and shoot.”
