Donald Thoms currently serves as vice president of Talent Development
for Discovery Studios. In this new role, Thoms oversees efforts
to scout and secure on-screen talent for Discovery Studios productions. Additionally,
he serves as Discovery Studio’ primary liaison to the talent community
as he works to identify and develop new on-air personalities to appear
in series, specials and short form content created by Discovery Studios
Prior to joining Discovery Studios, Thoms has was vice president,
Production for Discovery Health Channel/Discovery Health Media
Enterprises. In this role, he oversaw the day-to-day operations
of the Discovery Health production team and was responsible for
a wide array of original and co- productions. In addition,
he steered the strategic planning for Discovery Health productions,
the management, and execution of all content, as well as managing
parallel production plans among television, online, new media,
and other businesses.
During Thoms’ time with Discovery Health Channel, the network
saw double-digit growth in ad sales revenue and ratings
and many the network’s most successful projects were grown under

Prior to joining the Discovery Health network, Thoms
was Vice President of Program Management at PBS where
he was responsible for overseeing the packaging and
delivery of PBS’s programming services. In addition, Thoms developed
and evaluated programming projects as well as helped
to develop on-air promotional initiatives for key programs. While
at PBS, Thoms was liaison for independent and minority producers
coming to public television. He created
PBS’s series, INDEPENDENT LENS, which featured the works
of independent filmmakers and the INDI SCENE, an extensive website
promoting independent productions on PBS.
A native of Baltimore, Thoms currently is President of CINE the
50-year-old organization that recognizes excellence in
film and video making. He is a former member the Board of Governors
for the National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the
National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).

Mathew Tombers is Managing Director of Intermat, Inc.,
a television company which executive produces programs and consults with
industry companies on a variety of issues. Intermat, Inc. is currently
involved in approximately thirty hours of television in various stages
for a variety of networks. He is one of the Executive Producers of OFF
TO WAR, a ten hour series for Discovery Times and for a one hour on international
adoptions for Discovery Health. He has consulted a variety of companies,

Lauren Cardillo, CINE Treasurer and President of Fusilli Films, is an
award-winning documentary filmmaker whose work on subjects ranging from
the world’s longest footrace across the Sahara desert to the history
of gold has earned national recognition. Her ability to tell compelling
stories creatively has earned National News and Documentary Emmy Awards,
Telly, CableAce, Chris and Gracie Awards, as well as several CINE Golden
Eagles, an award from the New York Festivals and the Columbus International
Film Festival Screenwriting Award. In 2007, Cardillo co-produced STAND
UP: Muslim American Comics Come of Age, for Corporation for Public
Broadcasting America
at aCrossroads. Her current projects,
also for PBS, are 9 to 5 No Longer, and a film which
takes a look at the science behind the balloons in the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade™. Cardillo’s 2006 PBS
documentary, The
Mother Road, starring Lauren and her Mom, took the classic
road trip on a different path: Their mother-daughter
drive down Route 66 is a journey not just down a national
landmark, but through time’s barriers and across the
generations. The Golden Eagle winner received a Gracie Award
as well, was presented at the Sundance Independent Producers
Conference, and reached 90% of the public television
market. Formerly a Senior Producer for National Geographic’s Explorer Series,
Cardillo has worked with MTV, VH1 and HBO. For CNN’s investigative
and documentary unit, she produced an analysis of the savings
and loan crisis which won CableAce and Chris Awards. Cardillo’s
career began, fittingly, with “On a Wing and a Prayer”,
a film she produced about Amelia Earhart as a student in Stanford
University’s
Graduate Documentary Film Program. It aired on WNET and

Sandie Viquez Pedlow, Director of Stations Relations, PBS
TeacherLine, is responsible for system communications of an
online professional development service for teachers. She
previously served as the Director of Program Strategies for
the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in Washington,
DC. where she played a leading role in the development of public
television series and specials addressing social issues, children
and all aspects of American culture. Pedlow was instrumental
in developing CPB programming initiatives incorporating new
media and community outreach to reach new and diverse audiences.
Some of the specials developed under her leadership include The

Mitch
Praver, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
of National Public Radio, brings more than 25 years in
traditional and new media experience to CINE’s Board
of Directors. Before joining National Public Radio,
Praver was Executive Vice President, Business Development
and Sales at Rockville, MD-based Hillcrest Labs, a software
technology company. Prior to that he was General Manager
of AOL’s Web Personals business. From 1998
to 2004 Praver was at National Geographic ultimately serving
as President of NationalGeographic.com, its interactive
businesses including the Web site, CD/DVD-ROM business
and content development across new platforms. Previously,
Praver was Vice-President of New Media Distribution for
Discovery Networks and also led Verizon/TELE-TV’s
programming and content acquisition team for one of the
nation’s first VOD services called Stargazer. Earlier
in his career, Praver was Vice President of Programming
for the Katz Media Group and later served as Vice President
of Programming for the Lifetime cable network.

The History Project
Head of The History Project, which produces
historical documentaries, Leslie Sewell produced, wrote and directed Government
Girls of World War II, which received national broadcast on PBS,
was screened at the Library of Congress, and has been selected by numerous
colleges and universities for their Women’s Studies programs. Sewell
is completing a film on Iraq and Afghanistan in conjunction with Manifold
Productions, and is at work on a biography of Alexander Hamilton for
PBS. An experienced senior television producer, Sewell has written,
directed and produced network television programming for
nearly twenty years. With experience in documentary production
and short form news, she has produced for NBC Nightly News,
the Today Show, the Public Broadcasting Service and National
Public Radio. For PBS and the Fox News Channel, she
has produced television pieces including Bill Moyer’s
Now, To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbe, and Special
Report with Brit Hume. Sewell has managed live
coverage and supervised logistical coverage of events such
as national political conventions and presidential trips,
and has supervised news correspondents, writers, editors,

Kathy Slobogin

and program development for a range of cable broadcasters. Previously,
she was Senior Producer of National Geographic's documentary series EXPLORER
